Open day at CoCHC

The City of Coventry Health Centre (designed by architects Sonnemann Toon) opened it’s doors to the public yesterday, offering tours around the new facilities. Exciting to see the timeline we designed up in position and it looks great: from it’s beginnings as Little Park Street Hospital in 1838, to the opening of the Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital, through it’s experience in the wars, its assimilation into the NHS and the current site’s redevelopment into the CoCHC. The colours are from a palette (created by arts co-ordinator Frances Tobin) that clearly differentiates each of the floors of the centre, also serving as bold wayfinding elements, that are inspired by the city’s industrial history.

Above is my pick of the bunch – one of the heads of the hospital dressing up as a patient (not the invisible man), carving up a Christmas turkey for those in the ward.

Onedotzero

Saw some amazing work yesterday at ondotzero’s Adventures In Motion at the BFI. Really liked this video by Canadian auteur Chad VanGaalen for his own song “Peace On The Rise”. Reminded me alot of René Laloux’s 1973 animation La Planète Sauvage.

Coventry timeline

Excited about a new project for the City of Coventry Health Centre, which is currently under construction and due to open in January 2012. The project is a timeline piece telling the story of the site, from 1838 through to the current new build.
